Calculating and finding a value

Quantitative method of speaking and expressing brings precision to our speaking. In many circumstances unless we calculate and find a value it becomes absurd talking.

With modern computer and software quantitative methods are found spread into all fields. Numerical mathematics provides methods of reducing and expressing a problem into simple calculable form and getting solutions easily.

For getting practice in calculation methods you can use Excel for performing simple calculations.

You can create your own formula in a Excel workbook. Formulas are used to perform calculations such as addition subtraction multiplication and division. A formula begins with a = sign. This lets excel know that the information you are placing in the cell is meant to do a calculation.

For example, if you wanted to add two cells, such as a1 and b1 and then divide the sum by 2, you would design a formula that looks like this: =(a1+b1)/2

More complex calculations are done using excel functions which are ready-made formulas that perform a series of operations on a specified range of values. For example, to determine the sum of a series of numbers in cells a1 through d1, you can enter the function =sum(a1:d1).

Excel functions can do all kind of calculations including financial mathematical and statistical calculations. Use insert function feature in the menu .

You can use charts to make data more understandable. You can visualize and examine the trend and distribution . The involved processes are understood better.

You can do curve fitting to a set of data , can go for interpolating, extrapolating of a function given as tabular data , at unknown point. Many data sets can be fit and represented exactly or approximately by simple formula, can see effect of changing value of a parameter.

Understanding various calculational methods used in scientific and technological applications helps  analyzing various processes.
