Why Indian cricketers are against WADA rule?

The Indian cricketers have expressed reservations about signing the World Anti Doping Agency's code, which has been adopted by the International Cricket Committee (applicable from January 1, 2009) for all international matches.

The apprehension of the players, fuelled by "invasion into privacy" fears, could put BCCI in a fix as ICC has asked all cricket boards to ask their players to fill the "whereabouts update form" by August 1. The players have to submit details of their whereabouts from August 1 to October 31.

"How can we say where we will be after two months? The problem is during the off-seasons. We have several family, social and commercials commitments off the field and at times, we also go for vacations. If the WADA people come and find that we are not there, it will be a problem for sure. We can't sign just like that," a senior Indian cricketer said on Wednesday.

"We have no problem if doping tests are conducted on us, but we have to have a free hand on where we want to go. That is why all the cricketers are not willing to sign and even the BCCI is there with us. You test us when we are playing and we have no problems with it," another cricketer added.

The players revealed that this 60-minute testing slot must be specified "between six in the morning till eleven at night" to make himself available for testing each day. The players can fill up the form online. When BCCI was asked about this crisis, a top official merely said: "We will see what can be done to make the best use of this anti-doping law."

The prospectus of the whereabouts form says: "At the time of completing the submission form, if a player does not know exactly what his movements will be on each day during the quarter,... the players are required to complete the form and file it with the ICC (in accordance with the necessary deadline), proving the required information to the best of the knowledge for each day. You must not leave any day blank."

In that form, the players are also supposed to give residence details, competition and training locations and regular activity locations. Apart from the locations, the form also demands the precise address of the "one off" location at which the player will be present for any significant period of time on any particular day
