5 New Update Comes to Google Reader

Google Reader Google has finally made some updates in Google Reader. Today when I am checking RSS through Google Reader noticed that Google Reader has got some really good updates. Google has updated Google Reader’s look and feel, added a new Collapsible navigation, Hide unread count, friends are promoted and more feed bundles are added. Let’s have a closer look into each of the new features:

Look and Feel Update: We all know Google is always concern about the performance of it’s products as well as services. So that concern is also applied on Google Reader also. Google Reader team has removed some visual clutter, simplified some features and given everything a bit more breathing room.

Collapsible navigation : Collapsible navigation pane is the feature that is very useful and makes Google Reader more user friendly. With Collapsible navigation each section of Google Reader pane has it’s own options menu and minimize/maximize controls. You can collapse each major section of navigation down to one line and focus on only the things you choose to use.

Friends are Promoted: Shared items get their own Navigation pane. User can collapse entire section and see what their friends have shared with them. Google Reader users can add more friends from Google Reader’s sharing setting option.

Hide Unread Counts: Some of the a good number of unread RSS feeds are a source of anxiety, so finally Google Reader team has an option to hide unread RSS Feed count. Google Reader will not show the unread feed count instead of this the RSS Feeds will be bold and users can see the number of unread items if you hold your mouse over the subscription name.

More Feed Bundles: Feed bundles are small sets of feeds related to a topic that you can subscribe to all at once. Historically, these were done "by hand" by the Reader team, but this just wasn’t working out. So Google reader Team has written a program to make "bundles" for them. Google Reader team has also added a bunch of new topic-based bundles for easier feed discovery. Just find the "Browse for stuff" link in the main navigation pane and look for the "Browse all bundles" link on the bundles tab.
