How to Become an Office Superhero?
Being a People’s Champ
A super hero always helps a blind manager across the street. We are not talking about being an activist, but we mean to say that you should always keep the greater good in mind. Even when faced by insurmountable hurdles, assure yourself that you are one of the good guys and try your level best to make things better all around you in whichever way you can. What I mean is, despite tremendous temptation, Batman never reached for a gun. He always believed that he was one of the good guys and never strayed from the straight and narrow path.
Never Say Die Attitude
Once a Superhero discovers his superpowers, he usually sets a goal for himself,
something along the lines of ‘using my superhuman strength for the benefit of
mankind.
To become the office Superhero you too will have set a similar, albeit modestly
framed goal: to achieve and demonstrate excellence. Achieving excellence in
office is a five part process:
1. Knowing what to do.
2. Knowing how to do it well.
3. Gathering the right tools to do what you do best.
4. Accurately accessing you have done.
5. Taking responsibility for what you have done.
Endure Worklife Conflicts
Balancing work and romance may take up more than their just share of
your energy. Being dedicated far beyond the call of duty (read as 'running
household errands after a hard night/day's work fighting crime) can be a bit
like being an ordinary person in real life and a superhero in an
extraordinary life. So can you be smart enough to keep your office engagements
under wraps?
Since most professionals spend the better part of the day working in office
with little or no time to socialise, the temptation to court a colleague often
becomes too overwhelming to ignore. Most managers however, don’t like to see
their employees getting “involved” with one another since they see it as a loss
to productivity and compromised professionalism. If employees focus on romance
they can’t be focussed on work.
Suit Up Superhero
While no one would claim that a superhero’s appeal is exclusively due to his
costume, I doubt if he could have survived for so long without it. While
tights and cape unmistakably signal that the Man has entered the building and
is ready for action. ‘What he needs is a costume. Let’s give him a big chest, a
cape and make him as colourful and as distinctive as we can.’ The rest as
they say is history.
To become an office superhero, you will have to dress the part. You will need to make sure that whatever you wear is appropriate to your position and the work environment you find yourself in. This doesn’t mean that you have to mindlessly don the corporate uniform, without ever cultivating your personal sense of style, but that you fully understand the unwritten, but nevertheless very real dress codes, you’re is expected to follow by your organization.
