kirkpatrick's four levels of training evaluation
LEVEL # 1-- REACTION
LEVEL # 2 ----LEARNING
LEVEL # 3 -- BEHAVIOUR TRANSFER in JOB APPLICATION
LEVEL # 4 --- RESULTS/BUSINESS
LEVEL –1-- REACTION
• HOW PARTICIPANTS REACT TO PROG.
• DID THEY LIKE IT ?
• HOW USEFUL THEY FOUND THE PROG.?
· ALL PROGS. SHOULD BE EVALUATED AT THIS LEVEL
• WE DO IT IN A SCALE OF 1 TO 5 FOR ALL THE CLASS ROOM TRG. PROGRAMMES
LEVEL – 2 ----LEARNING
• TO ASSESS THE AMOUNT OF LEARNING FROM THE TRAINING
• TEST BEFORE TRAINING STARTS- PRE-TEST
• TEST AFTER THE TRAINING - POST TEST
• IMPROVEMENT RATE (IR) IS CALCULATED AS FOLLOWS-
• EXAMPLE. PRE TEST AVG. MARKS --- A
• POST TEST AVG. MARKS -- B
• % INCREASE -- B - A
•
• I. R. = B-A /A x 100 = X %
• THE TRG. PROG. RESULTED X % INCREASE IN SKILL LEVEL
LEVEL –3 -- BEHAVIOUR TRANSFER
• MEASURES THE TRANSFER THAT HAS TAKEN PLACE IN LEARNER`S BEHAVIOUR DUE TO TRG.
• ARE THE NEWLY ACQUIRED SKILL,KNOWLEDGE,ATTITUDE BEING USED IN DAY TO DAY JOBS ?
• IS THERE A CHANGE IN DOING THINGS OTHER WAYS AS TAUGHT AS COMPARED TO EARLIER WAYS ?
• THIS EVALUATION IS TO BE DONE AFTER 4/6 MONTHS THE TRG. ON A SUITABLE FORMAT
• 20 % PARTICIPANTS MINIMUM TO BE COVERED
• NOTE; THIS MAY NOT SUIT THE PROGS. WHERE OBJECTIVES ARE ---TO INFORM, TO EDUCATE .
LEVEL –4 --- RESULTS
• THIS EVALUATION ATTEMPTS TO ASSESS TRAINING IN TERMS OF BUSINESS RESULTS like
• INCREASED PRODUCTION
• IMPROVED QUALITY
• DECREASED COST
• REDUCED ACCIDENTS etc
• Determining results in FINANCIAL terms is difficult to measure and is hard to LINK directly with TRAINING.
