In such a scenario, the need is ‘awareness building’, whereby you need to strike a balance. Balancing postures in yoga make you aware of imbalances in life. Body’s de-stress mechanism needs to be brought out through these postures and stretching exercises. For instance, Natraj asana where you balance your body on tips of your toes or Vriksha asana (tree pose) where you stand on one leg with your other leg folded and touching your thighs and your arms stretched on top of your head in folded position. Since you’re standing in a way where your body is not in complete balance, your nervous system gets toned up and becomes strong. Thus, whenever any stressful moment comes across, it will not affect you much.
Walk through your body : Another yogic technique is Yoga Nindra , which is a form of deep relaxation or guided meditation. Until and unless body is completely fit and healthy, you cannot get into meditation. So here, a person’s mind is used to focus on the body. In this meditation process, you keep walking down through whole body. And gradually, you end up entering deep into your sub-conscious, which lets you hold on to your emotions and thoughts in a better way.
Boost your self-confidence : Meditation creates self confidence that lets you face the situation and makes the outlook positive. Reiki, a positive energy in meditation makes one positive in body, mind and spirit. Also the clutter in the minds of those who meditate gets cleared, so they can take the recession as a passing phase. In case you’ve lost your job, try taking this as a time to re-evaluate your career. Is this what you enjoy doing? Do you have a passion for your job? If yes, then you will certainly be able to find another job. Maybe you need to expand your working skills. And if at all you find yourself de-motivated to find another job, maybe you would like to try something different. So, it all depends upon how you let your confidence stand by you.
Instill positive thoughts : Young professionals who are frightened by recession need to realise that it’s time to stay physically and mentally fit. Yoga works on your mind and body and hence increases productivity, increases creativity, makes you have more fun with your life and helps you attain a balance between personal and professional life. If you’ve witnessed a drastic salary cut in your job, you would visibly become a negative person and will remain in that state for a longer period than actually required. But if you resort to yoga, you would feel healthy and your mind will soon recover from that traumatic state. With an induced sense of positivism, you can deal with recession stress by looking upon its brighter side, which can be - that you may get a salary hike soon.
Focus on your breath : According to the Yogis, your breath is the clearest indicator of your mental state. If your breath is fast and unsteady, you can do simple breathingexercises to bring it back to normal. If you are tense and your body is stiff, you can do simple stretches and asanas to relax your body. Short shallow breathing or heavy deep breathing changes body chemistry and produce different fluids flowing in through your body. Some of these cause stress and others have something to do with your wellbeing. You can practice Bandhas (neuromuscular locks) which balance your hormones and bring your entire system to its optimum level.
