Paragliding
Paragliding is a relatively new
sport in India. The major paragliding sites in India are Billing, Kullu,
Solang, Lahaul & Spiti(all in Himachal), Naukutchiyatal, Dayara Bugyal,
Dhanolti Ridge, Bedni Bugyal (all in Uttarakhand), Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur,
Udaipur, Bikaner (all in Rajasthan), Matheran, Deolali, Mahabaleshwar (all in
Maharashtra). The flying season spans September to December and then March to
June
Skiing
Skiing is a big craze worldwide.
Gulmarg in Kashmir offers one of the largest facilities for this winter sport.
The best part is that the snow conditions remain excellent from December to
April. Meanwhile, the slopes in Garhwal and Kumaon are also ideal place for
skiing in the winter months. Auli in Garhwal is currently rated as one of
India’s best skiing resort. Other places which can be ski lovers delight are
Kufri, Narkanda, Manali, Mundali, Munsiyari and Dayara Bugyal
Rock
climbing
Rock Climbing in India assumed
the shape of a popular sport nearly a decade ago. Though rock faces, ideal for
rock climbing, can be found in many marts of the country, the Aravali range,
Western Ghats, Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka provide some of the best climbing
faces. Places like Dumdama, Manali and Rohtang Pass are quite popular among
rock climbers. The best season for this tricky and risky activity is between
October and February
Trekking
India’s Mountain ranges offer
some of the most breathtaking and enthralling trekking routes in the world. The
Himalayan foothills are perfectly suited for trekking. The Garhwal and Kumaon
regions in Uttarakhand, Chamba and Manali in Himachal Pradesh, and Ladakh and
Zanskar in Jammu and Kashmir, are regarded as trekker’s paradise. We can also
find some unexplored trekking routes in the North-East. The adventure season
covers almost the entire year
White
water rafting
The icy Himalayan heights are the
source of a major chunk of India's rivers. The intricate network of rivers
flowing through rocky gorges and forests are just perfect for adventure sport
like white water rafting. Among the other regions in the country, the Garhwal
and Kumaon region in Uttarakhand is regarded as the best location for a perfect
water adventure. The most suitable period for this watery extravaganza is
between September-November and March- May.
