INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ENABLED FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES : A NATIONAL CONFERENCE
and S&T, Government of Karnataka, is organizing “IT for Persons with
Disabilities” - a National Conference on 20th & 21st December, 2010 at J
N Tata Auditorium, Indian Institute of Science, Malleswaram, Bangalore.
Fifteen years after the Persons with Disability Act was enacted in this
country, their inclusion in society has not seen any marked improvement.
In the same period, however, Information Technology has evolved by leaps
and bounds. Technology has become more powerful, user friendly and more
affordable by orders of magnitude in 2010, when compared to 1995. It has
been demonstrated across the world, that Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) provides a great opportunity to bridge the gap and help
PWDs to be more productive and integrate with the society, regardless of
the nature of their disabilities – Visual, hearing, mobility or
intellectual.
Karnataka, being India’s pioneer in ICT, is taking the lead in this
process and the conference is the first of its kind in the country. The
conference aims to bring together the leading players in the Industry,
NGOs sector and the relevant government functionaries to recommend
concrete action.
