Bijapur -Bagalkot belt had been identified as the target area for implementing the new wine policy. ”We are expecting at least 15 to 20 wine manufacturing units coming up after unveiling the policy”, are according to sources. Coming along will be new varieties of grape fetching better price, creation of employment opportunities in processing of grapes, manufacturing, packing and transport of wine and of course, big bucks by tapping the huge export market. Mr.Ramesh C Jigajinagi, BJP Member of Parliament and Chairman and Managing Director of Hampi Heritage Vineyards Pvt Ltd in Bijapur exhibited the rich crop of wine variety of grapes grown in his Vinod Farms. Here in the Krishna Valey lies the M/s Vinod Farms and Hampi Heritage Winery Company Pvt. Ltd, Bijapur, is that the 100 acre plot was exclusively developed for growing French variety of grapes. Mr Ramesh C Jigajinagi, is the man behind the Krishna Valley winery success story. He took the advice of Horticultural Scientist Dr Shikhamani ( Dr.Shikhamani former head of the National Horticulture Research Institute at Hessaraghatta, near Bangalore, the Silicon Valley of India) in developing the farm.

In a winery at Boothanal on the outskirts of Bijapur, French variety of wines including Rose wine, Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc and blush Zinfandel are being brewed.
