Don’t Crave for Recognition

"Happiness is like a butterfly, the more you chase it, the more it will elude you. But if you turn your attention to other things, it comes and softly sits on your shoulder

This is a famous quote, but I want to use it by replacing Happiness with Recognition and it fits perfect. Recognition according to the dictionary means “an act of recognizing or the state of being recognized.” Many in the rat race of corporate world try to gain recognition to put themselves ahead of the race, sometimes at the cost of human values and ethics.

Why do people crave for recognition, to obtain promotion, to be in good books, organization recognition, and salary hike? But one can achieve all these with dedication, discipline and hard work. The later path is tough; time consuming but a time tested formula filled with knowledge, satisfaction and inner bliss. Trying to gather recognition will have short term benefits but long term problems, whereas hard work and knowledge will definitely have long term benefits. Knowledge, ethics provide a firm foundation in ones career. Without them if one strives for recognition it’s like building a slab without firm foundation. Sooner or later the slab has to come down like a pack of cards.

If one continues to look for recognition, he might end up getting addicted to-be-recognized feeling. Also remember more often than not one praises anybody with selfish motives, which may not be very apparent. Usually people who strive for recognition end up pleasing their boss rather than true work and inner happiness. Also soon one will lose track of what one needs to do and end up doing what pleases the BOSS

So turn your attention to other important things in life and surely success shall hug you. Actions speak louder than words, so it’s better to concentrate on your work. Is their recognition worth the effort, when they will have to definitely recognize you if your work speaks volumes?

Lastly as they say “Change your thoughts and Change your world”. Do your duties ethically and sincerely and recognition like the butterfly will surely come and fall at your feet.
