My Journey To cancer...

Here we go…

It all started in June 2009. It was on the 9th that I started noticing severe pain in my abdomen and was diagnosed as colitis. I took the medications prescribed and on the early morning of 12th started wincing with very severe pain and almost fainted. It was 3 Am and my wife was away to CMC, Vellore for her posting(she is in her final year MD at St.Johns Medical College, Bangalore).

Called my assistant and my anaesthetic friend and got myself wheeled into the ER or Apollo Hospitals.

Initially they all thought it was a renal stone and was started on the treatment for the same. Got CT scan done and was waiting for the sonologist (the doctor whi does USG) to come. Was pretty pissed off, for here is a guy who is only a registrar and he takes his own time to come when the consultants are all there waiting on me. Called the consultant directly and requested him to come ASAP. USG was done and no stones, the diagnosis at this time was only colitis and I was relieved.

Went to my room and started getting news that there was air in the peritoneum and so peritonitis was suspected. The Jr. consultant came and conformed by pressing on my tummy and causing once more the worst pain I have experienced in my life.

I was immediately scheduled for a colonoscopy which found a severe stricture and tissue was taken and sent for pathology.

I was started on antibiotics and was kept NPO for possible emergency surgery.

Later in the day the consultant came and said that surgery is ruled out at this point in time since it is an acute event and since the perotonitis was self limiting. I was later transferred to a Platinum suite.

Next part I will write about the politics played by my colleague when I was suffering and also how I was taken for a ride by a Holy Man!!!
