It is our pleasure to invite you to the “Madurai Symposium 2009” to be held between 14 and 18 September 2009 at Tamukkam Grounds, Madurai, Tamil Nadu to bring together all stakeholders in to advance the process of development. As you may be aware, DHAN Foundation has organised a similar events in 2003, 2005 and 2007. Thanks to the overwhelming response and participation of the development community, we are enthused to host this development event regularly. The symposium will have a host of seminars / workshops / community conventions on various themes of development. Leading players in the development, public, banking and academic sectors organise these events.

As part of Madurai Symposium 2009, Kalanjiam Foundation and Kalanjiam Development Financial Services, Madurai jointly organise an event entitled ‘SHGs and Financial Inclusion: A Workshop on Sharing The Experience of stakeholders’ on 17 September 2009, Thursday, with the participation of all stakeholders in the field of microfinance and banking.

The agenda of the workshop drawing from the recent developments in the field will focus on different components of microfinance and financial inclusion. Firstly, the workshop will emphasise on building a broader understanding and development perspectives of financial inclusion among the participants. The second focus of the workshop will be assimilating the current experiences of federations and SHGs on financial inclusion. Thirdly, it will give thrust to identify the gaps and impediments in the ongoing experiments and Microfinance programmes and to deliberate on the ways and means to address gaps and impediments. Finally, the event would look at the future challenges and opportunities and the approaches and strategies to expand and sustain financial inclusion process in the country. We are pleased to invite you to participate and enrich the discussions at the workshop. The other participants for the event would include representatives from reputed people’s organisations, banks, government institutions, NGOs, academic and research institutions, and donor agencies associated with the sector.
