THE GLOBAL MIND PROJECT
We are now beginning to become aware that Hierarchies concentrate power at their apexes and generate authoritarianism, gender bias, coerciveness, violence and war and that these characteristics tend to diminish as these Hierarchies are flattened. Those who live and work in them tend to be authoritarianism, gender bias, coercive, violent and tend to create conflict. Such characteristics inhibit creativeness, responsibility and the ability to act independently. As a result hierarchical forms of organization are seen as being unsuited to certain types of activities. It is suspected that the higher the level of knowledge an organization works with the more unsuited it finds these hierarchical forms of organization. It appears that if we want intelligent organizations then they will have to take an entirely different form.
It appears that the network offers promise as an organizational structure that allows a very high level of intelligence. These networks can be made up of nodes that comprise a single human individual as well as nodes composed of a group or groups of human individuals. networks are holistic and do not have a center. each node is a center relative to other nodes. The network does not exist on any single spatial dimension. There can be networks within networks and these networks can be activated even momentarily - perhaps in order to respond to a particular event that calls for certain specialities to work together for a very short time. The network therefore takes on the appearance of the human brain with its endless neural connectivity.
The network therefore offers us the potential to link up with each other to form a sort of planetary super brain. If there are other life forms in the universe as many people believe - then this planetary brain may be able to link up with their planetary brain to form an universal brain.
various interesting implications have been pointed out. It has been pointed out that the most ancient - or primitive - areas of the human brain generate volatility and do not function on judgements. Would this characteristic arise within the planetary brain a well? We have a penchant for consuming our environment and it has been asked whether this planetary brain will also behave in such a predatory manner. We have no answers now but we do have the technology to link up and begin functioning as a planetary or at least a species wide brain. This is one of the initiatives that I am interested and engaged in to the extent possible.
