Partition Recovery after encountering Stop 0xc0000218
Have you ever encountered the abominable blue screen of death. If you have, you know chances of accessing your data is bleak, and you are likely to be in a state of loss of all the vital data that was saved in it, unless you have an updated backup. Sam booted his system the other day, and witnessed this highly tragic incident that any computer user could possibly experience. Another person, Rita experienced a similar event, a blue screen, with an error message, which didn't allow her to load her system. This happened because registry file is either missing or corrupt. In such a situations, the user can either opt for partition recovery methods, and if they don't work, then opt for partition recovery software.
What Sam had faced with his Windows-based computer was:
Stop 0xc0000218 (0xe11a30e8, 0x00000000, 0x000000000,0x00000000)
UNKNOWN_HARD_ERROR
Similarly, Rita had received following error message:
Stop: 0xc0000218 {Registry File Failure}
The registry cannot load the hive (file):
\SystemRoot\System32\Config\SYSTEM or its log or alternate.
It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.
The reason for these two error messages to appear is corruption of registry hive. Generally, corruption of registry hive occurs because of power failure owing to which there was unexpected shutdown of system, virus infection or inappropriate shutdown of system. Other reasons that might be responsible for these error messages could be, faulty hardware including RAM, cache, processor, or disk controller; or corruption of some system files.
In case the problem is due to faulty hardware, then change the hardware. That should solve the problem.
In case it is because of virus infection, then there is a need to run an antivirus on the system.
If the above step doesn't solve the problem, restore the system to the state before registry corruption.
You may also try to run chkdsk/p using recovery console. The moment disk checking completes, reboot your system. When OS loads, select 'Last Known Good Configuration.' You may perform a parallel installation to restore damaged registry files from backup.
Mostly above stated methods help solve the problem. But in case they don't, then you need to format the drive before opting for a third-party partition recovery software, to effectively extract all your partitions, along with the data saved therein.
Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery is an efficient partition recovery tool that can recover all the formatted partitions along with the data. Compatible with Windows 7, Vista, 2003, XP, and 2000, this recovery tool recovers data from exFAT, FAT16, FAT32, VFAT, NTFS, and NTFS5 file system partitions.
