Need to have a National Media Policy in India

India, being the largest Film Producing country of the world, have no Media Policy till the day. It is most unfortunate for those who are working in Media profession. Years back, during the rule of BJP in India, our Film Industry has been properly got a recognition as an Industry but without any policy. In India all most every Department has its fixed Policy like the Department of Environment, Department of Telecommunication & so on. According to the official report by the Government of India, the total FDI inflow into the information & broadcasting sector (including print media) has been INR 72,688.44 million (USD 1,614.11 million), forming a mere 1.64% of the total FDI inflow into India. These inlow has no firm guidelines & these are being used in variable styles by the persons who so ever are concerned with it. Every body is playing his own tune.

The condition of Indian Film Industry is more poor than any where in the world. The world's total expenditure on Filmed entertainment amounts to 80 million USD as of year 2009. The Hollywood receives 90 - 95% out of it. But when one looks on the Indian Film Industry, it makes up only about 1.8 million USD which is the only 2% . Indian Film Industry continues to be plunged by various endemic issues such as shadow finance, shortage of truely groomed creative & management talents, piracy & high taxation rates etc. These shortcomings seriously affect a genuine investor's ability to find a perdictable & profitable business model in our Film Industry.

We strongly need a National Policy on Media which can make a comprehencive policy addressing various emergent issues related to Indian Medi Industry & can formulate various regulatory directions based on the ground realities & future development. This is the need of the hour. Otherwise the existing situation will going to be more messed up with numerous functionaries.

This is what I being a Filmmaker strongly feel.
