Students prefer Indian Placements to International Ones
The recent trend among IIM
students graduating this year seems to be a bigger preference for
Indian placements than international ones. Though not all
international offers are being rejected, students are treading very
carefully. Only one international offer was rejected at IIM-B, a
handful more were rejected at IIM-C, no international offers have
been rejected yet at IIM-L. But officials say there is a general
sense of cautiousness before accepting any offers. Some reasons for
this are, curbs on the H1-B visa proposed by the U.S government,
differing location preferences etc.
Experts say the rise in
popularity of more students wanting Indian placements is a very
natural phenomenon considering the current market climate. This
stems from the fact that the Indian economy is a very diverse
one with many sectors. The dynamicity of the Indian economy lies
in the very strong industrial base we have that is supported by
the public sector and the strength of the economy is in the
small and medium industries. When people thought the small and
medium industries would disappear with the advent of retail
stores and malls, they surprised everyone with their tenacity of
hold on the customers that is born out of the intimate and
personal relationship they have with customers. Therein lays the
uniqueness of our economy.
All these and other factors are pushing more and more MBA graduates to look at placements within the country rather than to look outside of it.
