Virtual Hypocrisy

I am basically a social person in nature and love to meet lot of people and interact with them. When a friend introduced me to one of the social networking site in the internet, I was more than happy as I thought that it would give me the opportunity to get more friends.

I immediately posted my profile on the net and casually started browsing the other people’s profile (any body can see anybody’s profile without any hitch!) to get an idea about what is these sites really meant for? After going through some of the profiles, I really shocked and wondered about the whole concept of social networking.

In real life everybody would like to have their own privacy and even children are not open to their parents. In social networking sites, everybody lay bare their intimate personal details to strangers, whom they never happen to meet in their life.  In real life people are so reluctant to have an eye contact with their neighbours but feel free to disclose everything to the strangers on the net. Some even share their family photos with their net friend without knowing the consequences.

In real life, if any new person comes as your neighbour, we think twice before inviting them for a tea. But unfortunately in the virtual world people are inviting each other for big parties without knowing fully the antecedents of the other person. We always miss the opportunities to socialize ourselves on the garb of plenty of excuses, at the same time very seriously looking for a new friends in the virtual world by sitting in front of computer. Is it not a kind of hypocrisy?
