India to witness new job creations in next 3 months
India willstart witnessing new job creations in the next three months as employmentlosses appear to be bottoming out, a senior government official said onWednesday.
"I expect in the next three months, post April ... We will start gettingnew jobs," commerce secretary G. K. Pillai told to TV news channel. Withthe global slowdown impacting India, lakhs of people, mainly in the exportsector, lost jobs in the country.
A report by the Ministry of Labour had said that five lakh people were laid offin the country in the last three months of 2008-09. Pillai, however said thereshould be no more job-losses in the country.
"I think ... the job losses which have taken place are now almost reacheda bottom, we are bottoming out, about 10-15 lakh jobs we have lost," hesaid.
On the country's exports which are on a downslide since October last year,Pillai said a target of $170-175 billion has been fixed for the current fiscalwhich India could achieve even when the global trade volume is expected toshrink by nine per cent in 2009.
"I think that we will be able to achieve it (2009-10 export target) withfine tuning in our policy," he said. India is expecting 8-9% growth in itsexport in the current fiscal.
India's exports dipped by over 12% in October for the first time in five years.The country's exports in 2007-08 were about $163 billion. On exports of wheat,Pillai said, overseas shipments of the grain would be allowed after thecompletion of the Lok Sabha elections.
He also said a notification on safety norms for domestic toys manufacturerswould be come in the next 60-days.
