8 ways to fix printer errors
Printer can’t print mainly because of installation, improper using or setting. Besides, virus, broken printer drivers and troubled printer connector can also result in printer errors. When printers can’t print, the following 8 ways basically will help the issue out.
1. Error printer drivers
If the printer doesn’t work because of error printer driver, check out the printer manufacture’s site to get the right printer driver (for example hp printer go to hp.com to get the right hp drivers).
Note:
If it’s not easy to get the right driver on the printer manufacture’s site, try an automatic way like using a driver update software to get the printer driver updates automatically and fix the printer driver issue easily.
2. The printer is not connected
On most printers, there is a status light to show connectivity besides “online”, normally the connectivity light remains on. The machine is not normal if the light is off or remains flashing, in this case, check the power to see whether the printer is connected, the power is on and the wire is correctly connected.
3. Restart the printer
If the connectivity status light is on, turn off the printer, restart it and reprint the paper. This can clean the data and files in the machine and solve many problems, but it may lead to incorrect output too. If this occurs, just restart the system and it will print normally.
4. Set the printer to be defaulted printer
Steps:
1). click “set” in windows “start” menu, select “printer” and open the “printer” windows.
2). Right click printer icon, a menu will appear in the system. Click “set it to be default value”
Note:
If there is no present printer in the “printer” windows, double click “add printer” icon, and then add the printer according to the prompts. If the windows doesn’t have the “printer” on function, double click “add printer” icon, and then install the printer according to the prompts.
5. The printer is on the status of “pause”
Right click the printer in using and clear “√” before “pause printing”
6. The available disc is less than 10 MB
If the available disc is less than 10 MB(disc C), more space should be released to complete the printing task. In this case, click “disc clearing” and choose the file type to be deleted on the “files to be deleted” list.
7. Add printer over-time setting
Check and change the over-time setting, the steps are:
1). Choose the printer icon on the “printer” windows, and choose “property”
2). Choose “detailed information”, add over-time settings under the “over-time setting”. The undecided items are to set the time that the windows needs to wait for the printer connecting. If overtime, error will be reported.
8. Error serial printer port setting
1). Right click printer icon on the printer windows, and click “property”.
2). Click “detailed information”, make sure that the printer is at the proper port. The most common port is “LPT1”, and also there is printer with USB port.
