There are 2 steps involved in the whole printer installing process: hardware installing and driver installing. There is uncertainty during the 2 steps, differs from the printer itself. If it’s a serial printer, connect the printer first, and then install the printer driver. If it’s a USB printer, install the driver first before connecting the printer.

Printer hardware installation
The computer hardware interface now is made well with standard, just simply connect the printer interface with your computer, it won’t go wrong.
Driver installation
If driver disc is provided in executable file, simply run the setup.exe and finish all the steps according to the installing guide.
If only driver file is provided, the installation could be a little more troublesome. Here take windows XP for example.
1. Firstly, open the control panel, then double click printer and fax icon.
2. When a window displays installed printer (including web printer) , just click “add printer” to install new printer. When the “add printer” guide pop up, choose next step, default install serial printer if a windows asking whether to install a serial or a web printer.
3. Choose next step to install serial printer, the system will automatically detect the printer type, if the printer driver exist in the system, it will be automatically installed. If there is no automatic installation, a error will be reported, choose next step and default value and continue.
4. When a window asking about printer type pops up, if a corresponding manufacture or a type can be found in the list, directly choose it and then the next step ; if no such information can be found, we have to provide the driver location, choose install from the disc, and select your driver location such as floppy, disc etc. When correct location were found, open it (if no right location is provided and you choose to open it, there won’t be any corresponding options), the system will start installing, and the system will suggest you name for the installing printer and ask if you want to default it (default which printer to print as long as the printing order is given).
5. Newly installed printer needs to be tested, when another window asking about whether to print test page, select the option, choose ok to complete the whole installation process.
This printer installing guide is with any printers. If you want to install a canon serial printer, connect the canon serial printers first, and then install the canon printer drivers. If you need to install a Dell USB printer, install the dell printer drivers before connecting the printer.
