Civilian nuclear energy - Pros and cons

Associate Medical Superintendent
As India is debating about civilian nuclear energy, there has to be a proper understanding about the pros and cons about nuclear energy.

I am linking to a few sites about the Pros and Cons about civilian nuclear energy.

The debate about allowing the opening of a nuclear power plant was covered in a Television episode of 'Boston legal'.

The question is really, would you allow a nuclear plant in your neighbourhood?

The biggest disadvantages of nuclear power are as mentioned below:

1) THERE IS STILL NO PROPER SOLUTION TO THE DISPOSAL OF RADIOACTIVE WASTE,

2) Nuclear Power plants will be the biggest targets for terrorist acts and cause mass destruction in case of accidents or attacks and

3) Radiation exposure to the surrounding population.

And in India, we have still not solved the effective disposal of sewage and human waste (as mentioned in one of my earlier blogs)!

All the issues involved in Nuclear power are mentioned in the website links below from both a general and Indian context.

My personal opinion based on current evidence is that the Cons outweigh the Pros.
