Sri Lanka has agreed to tour Pakistan for tests and limited-overs internationals after India canceled its tour in the wake of terror attacks on Mumbai last month that New Delhi has blamed on Pakistan-based militants.

ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat on Monday said he was keen for Pakistan to host foreign teams, but a security assessment was required."We'll do an independent assessment of the situation there, for the safety of the match officials," Lorgat said in the northern town of Mohali, where India was playing England in a test match.

"After all, we would be supplying the match officials."All test matches are now officiated by neutral on-field umpires, while one umpires in each limited-overs international has to be from a country not featuring in the encounter. All appointments are made by the ICC.

"I'm convinced that Sri Lanka's cricket board will do everything to ascertain if it is safe or not, and also seek assurance from the Pakistan Cricket Board," Lorgat said.Pakistan has had a number of tours canceled because of security concerns and the ICC Champions Trophy was postponed a year because some countries were reluctant to compete.

Lorgat said next month's ICC board meeting in Australia would determine when and if the Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan."The ICC executive board would determine the fate of the Champions Trophy, we have to see the reality," he said.
