How to stay awake during a lecture.
College is a time of freedom, and a lot of us like to express that freedom by staying up late even if we have an eight o'clock lecture the next day. Regardless if you spent last night partying, studying, or watching TV, you can still make it to class without falling asleep during the lecture.
Run to Class
Don't walk to class; instead, run, jog, or bike, whatever. Just get your blood pumping. Most people walk to class, and they're already in a relaxed state, ready to go back to sleep. Exercise gets your heart rate up, gets more oxygen to your brain, and by the time you get to class, you'll already be wide awake and ready to start your day.
Bring a Snack
Some people choose to skip breakfast; that's a big mistake. Eat something before you leave for class or take something along with you to eat in class (if eating is okay with your instructor). You will want something healthy and high in energy. Fruit, granola, trail mix, and the like are probably best. You will need the snack to refuel you throughout the class and the day should you feel like you're about to fall asleep.
Sit Up
It's more comfortable to sit in a lecture hall when you're reclined comfortably, but all that does is make it easier to fall asleep. Sit up; it's harder to fall asleep this way. It also helps if the room isn't dimmed. It's probably best to sit in the front of the classroom, too. If you're situated directly in front of the teacher, you're probably less likely to fall asleep. The people who do doze off during class typically sit in the back of the classroom away from the watchful eyes of the instructor.
Stay Active
Move around a bit. If you're sitting in the same position for too long, it becomes so much easier to get comfortable and drift off to sleep. Shift your feet, move your arms, stretch, but do it quietly. There are other people around you listening to the lecture, so you don't want to disturb them. Make sure you're taking notes, too. Even if you don't really need them, this constant activity will do wonders in helping to keep you awake.
Get Changed
A lot of people come to class in their pajamas for the comfort. Get dressed. Showing up in your pajamas just communicates to your brain that it's time for bed. It'll be easier to fall asleep. This is the exact opposite of what you want.
Happpy Studying..!!!
