JAI BAJRANGABALI: WORLD WRESTLING CROWN COMES HOME TO BHAARATH
In the finest traditions of Hanumaan worship at Akhaadaas, esp in traditional PEHELWAANI /Bhaarateeya wrestling, athlete Sushil kumar won the world championship in wrestling in the 66Kg class at Moscow.Wrestling has indeed come back to its ancient home Bhaarath just like Vishwanaathan Anand brought in Chess world crown back to the home of the Shatranj. And how fitting that Sushil Kumar has done this and done us all very very proud.Bhaarath's Hindu ethos is rich in wrestling traditions and it all starts with the Supreme Godhead Krishna himself who was a champion wrestler and along with his brother Balraam defeated giant wrestlers like Chaanur before Krishna threw Kamsa (another great wrestler) from his throne in a classical wrestling pile-driver move. Krishna and Balraam were masters of technique and wrestling moves and could defeat wrestlers much bigger than them. Later in his life, Krishna also had an epic battle that lasted many days with the bear-warrior Jaambhavaan in the latter's cave during his titanic quest for the Symaantaka gem. Jaambhav himself was an all time great wrestler of superhuman strength and was at his best during the Lanka war of Raam and Raavan where he created havoc and mayhem in the ranks of Raavan's demon army of murderous giants. And the bear had boasted an unbeaten streak until Krishna broke it. (It was only when Jaambhav was subdued finally did he realize that Krishna was none other than his beloved Raam and consequently he gave the gem as well as his the hand of his daughter Jaambhavati to Krishna)And what to say of wrestling greats like Hanumaan himself, a super-wrestler of all times and from whom the finest traditions of the Bhaarateeya akhaada and pehelwaani has originated and who inspires raw courage and strength in the face of ultimate evil. But Hanumaan was also a champion of ultimate humility where his strength was used only in protecting the weak and upholding Dharma and never used in cheap displays. Moreover, his strength had spiritual dimensions with his unending devotion for his beloved Raam..... (BOLO JAI SHREE RAAM) And to top this Hanumaan is also an epitome of Brahmacharya (abstinence) of the sublimest order. And like the Bajrangbali in wrestling was his giant younger sibling Bheema (both are sons of the wind God, Vaayu) who was also a great wrestler other than his skills with the giant mace. But legend has it that Bheem had once become extremely arrogant in his invincibility just before the start of the Mahaa_Bhaarath war, when he embarked on a journey of meeting his older brother Hanumaan in order to request him to help the Paandavaas in the battle. During this journey Bheema came upon an big old monkey with its tail stretched in his path. The monkey was lost in a trance chanting Raam Raam Raam and did not seem to notice even when Bheema roared at it in full blast to give him way. When Bheema had almost lost it by the monkey's apparent insolence, the old monkey opened his eyes and gently requested Bheema to calm down. He then told Bheema that he (the monkey) had grown so old and weak that he could not even move his tail. So he requested Bheema whether he could help in moving his tail. Bheema finally condescended and set about moving the monkey's tail from his path with a flick of his finger in an arrogant and flippant demeanor. But Bheem found to his horror that he could not even budge the monkey's tail even an inch even when he exerted with the fullest of his superhuman strength. Finally Bheema flopped down exasperated and pleaded defeat. And that's when the old monkey rose and displayed its true form: Hanumaan, and that instant Bheema realized the folly of his arrogant ways. He begged forgiveness from his older brother and invoked him to help the Paandavaas in battle. Hanumaan agreed in principle but limited his role as just a stabilizing force by becoming the emblem on Arjuna's chariot. Because his beloved master Raam, who had reincarnated as Krishna then, also was not going to participate directly in the Mahaa_Bhaarath, but was just going to be a Saarathi to Arjuna, so also did Hanumaan.
So once again JAI BAJRANGABALI for Sushil Kumar's heroics on the world wrestling mat.
JAI HANUMAAN
JAI SHREE RAAM, JAI SHREE RAAM, JAI SHREE RAAM
