Airports converted into camps
The airports in half of Europe now resemble field hospitals. Thousands of passengers have been waiting for three days for the resumption of flights which have been cancelled because of the volcanic ash clouds from Iceland. A group of 52 Bulgarians have been stranded in Brussels by the air travel chaos plaguing Europe. The Bulgarians visited the European Parliament at the invitation of Bulgarian MEP, Slavi Binev. After hours on tenterhooks in search and bargaining they managed to negotiate a bus to transport them to Aachen in Germany against a thousand euro. There they will wait for a special bus sent from Bulgaria to take them home.
Other two groups of Bulgarians who have been on a visit to the European Parliament, organized by the MEPs Iliana Yotova and Kristian Vigenin were left high and dry for more than three days in Brussels. Yesterday they were waiting for a bus to take them closer to Bulgaria. The fourteen Bulgarian mayors who were on a visit to the Belgian capital are on their way to Bulgaria, the Standart learnt.
Belgian experts have calculated that the volcano eruption in Iceland which has cancelled flights for the last three days will cost over a billion euro to airlines in Europe.
