Request For Proposal

A Request For Proposal (RFP) is the earliest stage in a procurement process which issues an invitation for suppliers, often through a bidding process, to submit proposal on a specific commodity or service. The RFP process gives a proper structure to the procurement decision and identifies the risks and benefits involved in it. Request for Proposals comprises list of requirements stating what is needed, supplier's profile information, pricing documentation, contractual information and a structure for ensuing proposals from suppliers.

RFPs which are effective and successful; display both long & short term plans and objectives that will eventually result in the suppliers providing an equivalent perspective. Municipal agencies, non-profits and corporations time and again require RFPs to get unbiased andcompetitive bids.

Request For Proposals are highly advantageous because :

a) The entire process of RFP helps organizations in determining their targets, in assessing multiple solutions on an even platform and also in getting exact pricing for solutions that meet their needs.

b) Although often seen to be time-consuming as they need organizations to put in a lot of time and consideration in summarizing their wants and needs; it is a time WELL SPENT.

c) They are often compulsory for non-profits, municipal agencies and corporations for getting highly competitive and fair bids as per their requirement.

Key Pointers for making an effective Request For Proposal(RFP)

- Make it a point to answer all questions
- Always give examples that are appropriate
- Enunciate more on points that make you the correct choice ( and not on the price factor)
- Attempt towards writing a fantastic executive summary.

RFPS make it easier for organizations to choose projects that enrich and highlight your key strengths and also strive towards drawing out projects that offer great business opportunities.
