FORE holds HR Conclave
Future Talent in the Making- Expectations and Challenges
September 26, 2008, FORE School of Management organized an HR Conclave, Future Talent in the Making – Expectations & Challenges. The conference recognized that in today’s competitive world, it is primarily the human talent in the organization which provides it a competitive advantage. Human Talent is a key solution to efficiencies, deliveries and service differentiation in this era of commoditization.
The Conclave was well attended by representatives of industry along with faculty and students of FORE. A platform was provided for the students at FORE to interact with the renowned HR personalities of the Corporate world. The key speakers were:
Mr. Sudhir Mathur, CEO, BOPP, Max products, gave a Top management’s perspective of HR providing a competitive edge for an organization. He talked about the concept of “Human Capital” and the need for improving, conserving and growing it just like any other asset. He also shared some harsh corporate truths like the “fight for supremacy amongst all functional departments of the company” and “HR being seen as an expense and not as an asset in any company”.
Mr. P. Dwarkanathan, a renowned HR professional, talked about the importance of HR skills for the growth of any company. He also discussed about the great HR practices of companies like P&G, Ford and Glaxo Smith line and how talent should be seen as business portfolio rather than only HR portfolio.
Mr. M.K Srivastava, GM, Corporate HR Resources, Wipro, talked about the need of strategic thinking to overcome the cognitive complexity and importance of effective teaming to gain competitive advantage.
Mr. Dilip Kohli, from Keunne Nagel talked about the constant process of nurturing talent by not only the managers but the organizations as well. He also stressed upon the importance of the right employee job fit.
Mr. Amit Dhar of Hewlett Packard talked about the importance of retaining talent over attracting talent.
Discussions focused on matters like the need for long term insight while looking for career growth, promise delivery, talent being recognized and appreciated, hiring to fill gaps in succession plans and hiring freshers at entry levels, and also about transfers to other verticals to enable understanding of all verticals to facilitate the development of big picture vision that were talked about to give a well rounded view of the expectations and challenges that talent would face in the corporate world.
