Nostalgic memories

It goes to the credit of Sunny Gavaskar - the bete noire of Kapil Dev in yester years who had organised a get together for the Kapil's devils who created history by toppling the unquestioned monarchs of One day cricket those days, West Indies. It was a nice gesture on the part of Sunny to have acknowledged the fact that Kapil was an inspirational leader. Many people have revisited the rare occasion in history of indian Sport when India was reigning supreme.

The advent of Kapil Dev in the late seventies ushered in a bunch of highly motivated cricketers like Yashpal, Kirti Azad, Madan Lal, Roger Binny, Balwinder Sandhu,Sandip Patil who together with the irrepresible Mohinder Amarnath scripted a famous win at Lords. Kapil had instilled in the team members a lot of self confidence and guided them by leading from the front. Perhaps no other sporting event galvanised the entire nation as did the upset world cup triumph. It was just when a panel voted Kapil to be the Indian Cricketer of the century ahead of many more other celebrities. The nation owes it to him to have made our team realise the essense of team spirit and our underlying potential as world beaters. Perhaps Saurav Ganguly could come a close second as the other most inpiring captain of india.
