Are you a fresher, struggling to get a job?
Now you must be thinking, Yeah this guy too came up with the same old bullshit.
Yeah you are right. Its nothing different I am going to put down few things if the students do right then they can get a job “very easily by hard working”. Now you must be thinking what is this easily by hard working :-) Don’t think too much, I wrote it just because it came to me when I was writing. It sounded good to me.
Before going forward why do you have to continue reading this? No specific reason as such if you feel like reading more you can otherwise also you can :-) I know its interesting and you are liking it.
I am feeling like some divine call. I can hear somebody roaring, “VISAKH… enough of your PJs LET’S GET SERIOUS” Ok let’s get serious :-)
A common thing, which I have noticed in the students are they are very casual till the time they are in college. No offence they are meant to be like that. Last few days to enjoy their life (College life). It’s the same thing that happened with me as well.
Suddenly the students will realize my degree is getting over within few months and after that I have to get into a good job. Did you think that? Ask yourself. BULLSHIT I know no one did it. They realize their course is getting over in few months so lets have the maximum amount of fun. That’s what I also did. You can comment at the end if am not right (Ha am clever I will set the comment moderation)
The problem here is once they are done with their course and if the students are not from IITs or IIMs its gonna be tough for them to get the job since they haven’t got enough exposure while they were doing their degrees.
The reasons I will tell you (Lets not share with anyone!!! I will put it silently here… Shhh… be quite ahhh…). The following are few of my experience in the colleges, where I went to give seminar.
Incident number 1: A famous college’s HOD (I don’t wanna reveal the name here). After my seminar she walks to me and tells. “Visakh very very thanks for the useful inputs which you have given to the students. Can you arrange few workshops in the college to help the students to know better about the industry?” The reason what she gave was: “Poor students are exposed to 6 year old syllabus, I don’t know when the university is going to rework on the seminar” Goshh I felt sad for the students and that HOD was really nice, at least she is thinking about her students…
Incident number 2: Another 18yrs old college’s computer science HOD. The placement officer introduced to me “Meet Mr. XYZ our HOD of CS” Let me tell you I really lost it. A cool dude 7ft tall, 2inch no.. not 2inch 4inch width. Orange color shirt and a bell-bottom maroon pant. I was like which planet I am in Binggg. I just thought a while about the students. Our man’s first question to me, boss what are you going to talk about today. I just told with a fake accent “Well…, am gonna talk about technology called Elvis Presley” and the people around me just laughed. He was like: Oh all the best (CS HOD… sad)
Incident number 3: One fresher came for the interview in my firm. The guy was searching for a job in Bangalore for a while; my HR asked what would you do if you wont get job for another 2 months? Our man with a cool attitude “I will go back to my home town and become a lecturer”.
Where is our education system going?
Many incidents like this. I really go mad if I think about it. Poor students.
After learning from this kind of people the students will come out for the job hunt. Where in they won’t be knowing: What is User Interface (UI)? What is database? How to connect the UI with the database? Forget it. The people who teach don’t know the short cut key for copy and paste itself. Then what we can expect from the students?
Here comes another bunch of people, training institutions (No offence against them)
These guys have state-of-the-art syllabus with them. They will get it done through one of the industry stalwarts. The other category is this mom and pop institutions. They get the brochures from premium institutions and edit it. But few are genuine (FEW).
But all the above institution has real good counselor (Con-Sellers). They promise them everything possible under the sky. Poor students fall into the gimmicks shown by the counselors.
Guys it’s high time, you realize the things and give attention on the following points when you select a course:
1. If the counselor tells, she will place you once you finish your course. Ask how many students have already done the course and how many got placed? Obviously they are not that dumb to tell you the truth. Try and talk to few of the students who are currently doing the course from the same institution and get their number. Call them once they are out of the institution and talk to them.
2. Very important: Check out how many years of industry experience the faculty has? Try and talk to the faculty if possible
3. Check out the course completion: Ask to few students whether the faculty are covering the entire portion in the curriculum. Are they finishing it by said time?
4. About the assignments and examples: Ask whether the faculty are giving industry standard examples and assignments?
5. Search in various job portals about the availability of jobs in that particular domain
6. Get the clear idea about that particular industry. How is the growth of it? Is it saturated or is it growing? How many people are required in the coming years for that particular domain
7. Try to find a mentor for yourself and consult with him before starting with the course.
8. Don’t waste your time after your college to do a certificate program if you are not good at programming.
9. Make sure you won't spend a whole lot of money on the course. Your parents must have struggled to pay your fees and expenses. They think once you are done with the degree you wont ask for more money and they expect you to get into a job soon.
10. Ultimately make sure whatever course you are doing try to give your best. There is no history of a talented guy sitting outside without a job :-)
There is a course, which siliconindia is giving, we have kept all the above aspects in our mind and did the course. I will post the link to the courses, check it out it may help you.
