Product Management - When and How does it matter?
Recently I attended Nasscom's Product Conclave and started comparing how Product Management is different forĀ startupsĀ as againstĀ the one followed by MNCs.Ā Incidentally, I was the Product Manager for Product and Product Portfolio Management tool in one of the large Technology MNC. Tool was mainly targeted for Market-Driven products. So, when I assessed product management skills discussed in the conclave andĀ honed for startups at Product Conclave, I felt that concentration is mainly on Design. To some extent, few other dimensions of planning were discussed. TheseĀ topics are definitely important. In fact they are similar toĀ business analysis. But are they sufficient to become a good product manager or develop an awesome product?Ā Another angle I hear now a days is the Lean approach. It is a very important concept, not only to experiment and bring Minimum Viable Product, but avoid scrap. How above question is related to MVP?BTW. Nasscom's Product Conclave and overall quality of sessions was definitely great. So, this blog is not a comment on Product Conclave, but to help product manager's create their own framework to develop awesome products.
