Rupee Symbol
In our fast growing economy, Cabinet approved symbol for the rupee. The symbol of rupee is the combination of Devanagiri script "Rah" and Roman Script Capital "R". The distinct symbol really denotes the robustness of Indian economy. Emperor Sher Shah Suri in the 16th century first introduced rupee as a silver coin for transactions of goods and commodities. After the end of Mughal dynasty and British rule, still rupee has been used as a currency in India. Now rupee joins in global market in symbol-endowed national currencies---British pound, US dollar, and Japanese yen.
As per the designer of rupee symbol D. Udaya Kumar, the design is based on the tricolour with two lines at the top and white space in between. Above all the symbol is awesome! I am very impressed with the symbol and it's representation. Although immediately, there will not be any change of our currency notes and it will take long time to implement, I love to see it very soon in currency notes and in computer key board.
