Cracking Chrome OS At Black Hat News
The Black Hat computer security conference held in Las Vegas had researchers trying to crack the Chrome OS open. The operating system was designed by Google to do everything online. The researchers used this property to get users’ names and passwords as well as bank information.
Chrome OS The vulnerabilities that the researchers used can easily be closed by Google, but they said that there is no way to block the bigger threat to the platform. Google said that the Chrome OS has good security features. Since the apps run online, users would not have outdated software.
Chrome OS is automatically updated and there’s little data stored in the computer. If malicious software infects the computer, Google can remotely restore the OS to a clean state. Google says that these would make the platform less prone to viruses and other threats.
Matt Johansen and Kyle Osborn, researchers from White Hat Security, showed how Chrome OS can be vulnerable to dangers. They didn’t care about accessing the hard drive of the Chrome OS laptop because it’s the information they were after.
The researchers used common hacking techniques. They gained access to the laptop through cross-site scripting. They inserted a web page with code that runs on the web browsers of visitors to the site. The code will then perform tasks on the users’ computers.
