Removing DRM Restriction Can Reduce Music Piracy
According to Rice University and a Duke University's new research, it can reduce piracy to remove drm, this point is exactly opposite to phonograph record industry traditional viewpoint. Researchers check influence to piracy using analysis model in situation that DRM exists or not. They found that DRM restriction makes piracy cost higher and more difficult, but also make negative effects to legitimate users.
The research said that only legitimate users get DRM restriction, and pay price and pain. There is no influence to piracy users. DRM prevents legitimate users backup music, forces them to embrace piracy. Research shows that getting rid of DRM restriction can reduce piracy. Steve Jobs once said that DRM didn't stop piracy. It is very necessary to get drm free.
