Amity University organizes Convocation 2009
To reward the hard work and diligence of the students, Amity University held its "Convocation 2009" at Amity University, Sector- 125, Noida. The magnificent ceremony commenced with the procession comprising of the Chief Guest, Hon'ble Mr. M. N. Venkatachaliya- Former Chief Justice of India, Guests of Honor, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Universe; Mr. Atul Chauhan- Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh; Mr. Aseem Chauhan- Chancellor, Amity University, Rajasthan , Board of Trustees, Office bearers of University and Faculty Members wearing scarlet robes preceded by a band of pipers humming the traditional celebration songs. Graduating recipients, donning black robes with hats and colored scarves representing the different degrees they were being conferred upon with, were the show stealers. A huge gathering of proud parents watched as the graduants were conferred upon with their degrees.
The Chief Guest, Hon'ble Mr. M.N. Venkatachaliya- Former Chief Justice of India applauded the humungous and brilliant gathering of parents and students. Addressing the students, he said that today there is so much of inequality in society but next society will have no resemblance to today's society. Science and Technology will change the entire society. Doling out three ways by which the country's economy can be strengthened, Hon'ble Mr. Venkatachaliya outlined that at present only 9% of the university aged youth have the opportunity to pursue higher education in universities, this meager percentage has to be raised to 20%. He suggested that Government should at least spend Rs.15, 000 crores on the promotion of Science and Mathematics and should encourage private industry based research initiative. He commended the extraordinary work Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, the great visionary has been doing in promoting science and research.
Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan heartily welcomed the alumni and their parents. He motivated the alumni to aim higher in life and to prepare a roadmap to reach the pinnacle of success. Motivating and inspiring the alumni, Dr. Chauhan said that Amity is a fraternity which will soon be unparalleled in the entire world because of its dexterous students and their strong conviction and believe in human values. The students of Amity with their unswerving faith in God and themselves will make India a "Super Power".
Congratulating the alumni on the grand occasion, Mr. Atul Chauhan expressed his joy on seeing such extraordinary talent, capability and potential in all the graduants and said emphatically that he envisions many future Nobel Laureates, future Chief Justices and future Prime Ministers in them. Citing a Chinese Proverb he averred that there has been lot to do across the world. As long as people are dying out of poverty, as long as girl children are neglected, as long as terrorists disrupt our peace and normalcy and as long as other countries dictate terms for us, Amitians have lot to do. He urged the students to earnestly respect and thank their parents who made the students what they are today.
Maj. Gen. K Jai Singh- Vice Chancellor, Amity University gave a brief overview of programs and scholarships offered under Amity University and reviewed the achievements and progress of the University. Presenting the impressive annual report of the University, he said that despite several Universities grappling with the repercussions of economic slowdown; Amity University has done exceedingly well with almost 100% placements in MBA, Nanotechnology, Telecom technology, Micro Biology and Herbal Medicine, Competitive Intelligence and many other flagship courses offered by the University. Dwelling on the academic performance of the University which is one of the yardsticks to measure any University's excellence and meritocracy, he revealed that the overall passing result for Bachelor Programmes has been 81%, Masters 79.8% and PG Diploma 68.7%.
During the sanctimonious occasion, over 2500 alumni received Degrees/ Diplomas and in total over 3, 959 degrees were awarded in various disciplines including Management, Insurance and Actuarial Sciences, Microbial Technology, Fashion Technology, Behavioral and Allied Sciences, Competitive Intelligence and Telecom Technology. Over 1812 Post Graduate degrees, 1551 Under Graduate degrees and 92 Post Graduate diplomas were awarded to the graduants.

Tech - Biotechnology (2004-08); Vidhi Mehrotra from B Sc. "Shri Baljit Shastri Award For The Best in Human & Traditional Values" was conferred upon Jitender Gupta from MBA - International Business (2006-08); Girish Chander Gupta from MBA - Telecommunication Management (2006-08); Mansi Banga from B.Tech - Electronics & Telecommunication (2004-08); Rishi Gudwani from PG Diploma in Event Management & Public Relations (2007-08); Mitchelle Lee from MA - Advertising & Marketing Management (2006-08); Abhinav Bhatt from Master of Journalism - Mass Communication (2006-08); Megha Purohit from Bachelor of Journalism - Mass Communication (2005-08); Sumit Saxena from MBA - Competitive Intelligence & Corporate Warfare (2006-08) and Afrin Moulvi from B.Sc (H) - Forensic Sciences (2005-08).
Corporate awards ie. "The Jubilant Organosys Entrepreneurial Excellence Award" was conferred upon Pulkit Dublish (Master of Business Administration- 2006- 08); Max New York Life Award for Best All Round Student went to Ashit Prakash Mahajan (PG Diploma in Insurance Management (2007-08) and "The LG Best Potential Manager Award" was conferred upon Mr. Jitesh Arora (MBA- 2006- 08).
For the first time, five PhD Degrees were conferred upon erudite scholars.
Over 66 gold medals, 63 silver medals and 32 bronze medals from 41 institutes of Amity University, Uttar Pradesh and Amity University, Lucknow were awarded during the convocation.
The prestigious convocation was attended by scholars, senior government officials and family members of the graduants.
