Ethics in Business or Only loot?
The recent impasse between Jet Airways pilots & the management has lead to very undesirable consequences in Indian Airline industry. As a mere reader of news, I really don't want to ponder, who's right or wrong, but one thing which upset me lately was, the exploitation of passengers by other airlines by raising the tickets rate to multifold amount. It's disheartening to see Airline Operators just don't care for anything other than money.
So finally DGCA has stepped into the matter and warned all Airliners not to charge extraorbitant amount for tickets. But why did this happen? Are we Indians look problems at neighbouring household as opportunity to exploit for our benefit? Is it ethical? It's not. After all it's a service industry and a passenger today flying on Jet may come to you tomorrow. What image are we creating of ourselves?
This attitude of raising ticket rates reminds me the fact that, Indian Airliners are driven to raise their profit margins in time of difficulty, at any cost. But if you ask me, there's something more than money, which drives business ahead. It’s what I call ethics behind the value system of the company. In service industry, we call it 'Own the Customer' and till airliners realize this simple fact that exploiting our own valuable assets for short term profits may damage the brand of company (Let’s not talk about brand…Long term relationships is more suitable) in long term, people like us will continue to get exploited often. Hope, Indian Airline Industry shows some ethical behavior in time of difficulty. I am asking it for the sake of Customers...Nothing Else!
