ipad Accessories Stand Review: Belkin Chef Stand and Stylus for iPad 2

With the increasing popularity of tablets in the kitchen, Belkin released several accessories to make using them more convenient. These kitchen tablet accessories include Fridge Mount, Kitchen Cabinet Mount and Chef Stand and Stylus. We look at the Chef Stand and Stylus for this review. The sleek Chef Stand with the accompanying stylus is designed for you to cook using your tablet as recipe or instruction book hands free. The stand provides two viewing angles for the iPad 2 or other tablets with similar size, and the stylus comes with its own holder.

Design

If you cook with recipe books or magazines often and are moving into the digital age, the Belkin Chef Stand + Stylus is for you. The two tone chrome and black rubber stand is small yet heavy and strong enough to hold your iPad 2 steadily in either a more upright position or a more flat position. The slot for the iPad 2 to stand up in has room for some extra bulk, and this means you can use the iPad 2
iPad Cases Ipod cases in a reasonably slim case and still fit in the slot. But if you have a thick leather case or portfolio style case, you might not be able to use the iPad 2 in the slot with the case. In the more flat position, the Belkin Chef Stand can accommodate the iPad 2 or any other tablet for that matter with or without a case. The rubber surface feels grippy and can certainly prevent the tablet slipping off of the stand. The stand also has rubber bottom that ensures your iPad 2 doesn’t slip on your table or counter.

The other part of the package is a heavy capacitive stylus that looks and feels like a kitchen tool. In fact, the chrome tip and black rubber stylus pen might just blend in with your spatulas and spoons. The stylus saves you from touching the iPad 2’s screen while cooking, and it’s easily washable with soap and water. The stylus comes with its own holder that’s weighty enough to hold the heavy pen in place. The Chef Stand and the Stylus have matching styles and look good on most counters.

Features

Like with the stylus, the Belkin Chef Stand is also washable. You don’t have to worry about getting liquid or flour on it while it’s sitting on your counter. But remember, they are not dishwasher safe. While the Chef Stand functions very well at holding your iPad 2 off the counter, we wish there were a charging option on the stand.

The stylus has a thick tip as well as a thick body that make it very ergonomic to use while you are cooking, and you won’t lose it easily because it’s too small. Though the tip is thick, only the very end works with the tablet. This means you need to use the stylus straight on instead of at an angle when tapping on the tablet’s screen. Another unique feature in the stylus is that it has a magnetic tip. If you use the swipe across iPad 2's magnetic side, the stylus can wake up and turn off the screen so you don't have to touch any part of the iPad 2 while cooking.

Conclusion

If you have accumulated a nice collection of cook books, magazines and family recipes on your tablet, the Belkin Chef Stand and Stylus make a good kitchen accessory for you to cook with your tablet. The stand is sturdy and not slippery, and provides two viewing positions. The stylus is weighty and thick, easy to handle while cooking. Both can be washed with soap and water, and they come in the colors and style that match most kitchen tools and appliances. We only wish the stand had a charging option for those long cooking sessions.
