Health ministry assign task to appraise health insurance schemes in states to PHFI
The measure was taken after Andhra Pradesh has submitted a proposal to the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers for financial support from Rs.307 crore for implementation of the Health Insurance Plan Rajiv Aarogyasri (RAS) for the benefit of families living below the poverty line.
Meeting of the Committee of Secretaries (CoS), has discussed the matter and submit a proposal to the Planning Commission. The plan, however, the panel announced that the Scheme Aarogyasri need for a comprehensive review and evaluation of an independent body.
In the process, PHFI asked to conduct a critical evaluation of the health insurance models, including RAS and the State governments were also invited to submit their plans. The Planning Commission and the Ministry of Health will study the report before making a final decision on the extension of assistance to States, the sources said.
"The Department believes that because Aarogyasri Scheme deals with secondary care and is not consistent with the objectives of the National Health Rural Mission (NRHM), which focuses on primary and secondary care, the funding would not be possible NRHM. Rajiv Aarogyasri is the flagship program of all health initiatives in Andhra whose mission is to provide quality care for the poor. The aim is to achieve "Health for All" in Aarogyandhra Pradesh (Andhra Pradesh Healthy). To facilitate effective implementation of the plan, the state government had established health care Aarogyasri trust under the chairmanship of Prime Minister.
