Nuclear Deal and India -
Business-wise unfolded events showed skilled, unskilled strategic moves from multiple quarters of the public-officers (elected and unelected), back-room strategists and media dancers.
for those who are interested in strategy may find current episode of India-Nuclear-deal a gold-mine of strategic wisdom. Some, however, may find dishonesty and greed under the rug of patriotism and/or partition-ism.
I am slightly confused and saddened by the fact that NO ONE is SAYING STRONGLY about THE EFFECT of NUCLEAR PLANT ON CHILDREN THOSE WHO LIVES within 10kilomeeters and as far as 100 Kilometers radius.
Recent report in Germany should that those who lives around that radius has higher incidence of Cancers importantly for the children between the age of 1-14yr.. Sever studies also performed in USA, JAPAN and France show that children’s health became better after a nuclear-power plant had been closed.
Germany decided to close its all nuclear power plant ahead of schedule and it is now putting huge thrust toward wind and other safe energy options.
An ironic event had happen the day India went to IAEA, France had an incident of Nuclear power. Its water licked out in a large quantity that had spread a sever panic in France.
It is important to note here that Australia is one of the biggest suppliers of Uranium –yet it does not use it in its backyard – now nuclear plant in Australia –
See, India has highest amount of land for solar power –usage - yes, initial cost is higher but much lower that many other technologies including nuclear – beauty of it is one does not have to look for the fuel for the solar energy – it is free. Some say efficiency of conversion is low …
I would say do you recall Murphy’s Law with respect to computer processor – speed/efficiency doubles every 18 months – same thing will happen once we begin to use solar panel in large scale – fast-forward, we started solar-cell with polycrystalline material –then moved to amorphous to thin layer and so on. And efficiency moved from 10% to 20%. Now we are in Nano-tech era – efficiency is to move to above 50%.
I personally know of a company in Silicon Valley is just doing that – can you imagine this. BUT when one puts so much fund and strategy in to nuclear model, an implementation of Solar-power model may get 2nd degree attention. One also should investigate the project called supper grid in AFRICA. It has been floated by the EU to a large array of solar panels in African countries, trap the solar energy, convert that energy into electricity and bring back to EU grid. It is a wonderful project. If that is plan, why other countries are not encouraging to India to make its own supper grid since India has 4.5 million sq km land for solar power (20MW/sq. km)
Indian Wind turbine companies are making better and better wind turbine. They are exporting a large some of wind turbine to the world market. Recently Gujrat took a strong initiative to be a wind-hub. It is foremost good for health – what one is going to do with power when diagnosed with cancer – nothing. I rather have many long dark night rather than some bright with pain.
While every elected and unelected officers are making their points on the Nuclear deal, I would like to make mine – It is a high time to look into the cost –primary as well as secondary – the secondary cost will begin to come within 5 yrs of operation and that is mounting heath-care cost due to long-term and long distant effect of nuclear plant – besides those who will be working at the plant and in-frequent mistakes, accidents in the plant followed by cover-up.
Those accidents would be detrimental – One must not forget BHUPAL. I had first had experience in Chlorine exposure from an accident in a chemical plant – that first tried to cover-up. We used to live 20+ Km away from the plant, but I recognized the smell and I had the Bhopal in my head, also I was aware of the industrial surroundings… we took necessary precaution. However, if it was nuclear – none of biological sense would catch the problem for moths and even years, until I am diagnosed with the verdict.
I would like to recommend those who disagree with the scientific data on the effect of nuclear plant on children’s health (specifically cancer) to have built nuclear plant within 10-50 Km radiuses of their residences. In this regards, I must suggest to have one or two nuclear plants near New Delhi parliament house. This will give larger population confidence and trust on the word the officers are making. Rest should be build at supporting states' capital. After all, it is a high profile project and as with all high profile projects, nuclear-plant should be in proximity to the capitals.
We have elected our MPs and MLAs to lead us, to protect us. If MPs are unable to protect its citizen, then MLAs must do. On that ground KERALA’s MLA (Kerala Govt) using its
FEDERAL RIGHTs to protect its citizen from nuclear inevitable consequences. Perhaps other STATE GOVT would consider in exercising its FEDERAL RIGHTS granted by the Constriction of India and is almost hidden and never used.
Thank you
