Boxing techniques and importance of practice gloves
Boxing is a risky injury-prone sport.

- The Cross is another powerful strike that comes from the rear hand. It has to be quick, forceful and come from straight across movement which means slight body rotation. The alternate hand should protect the face from counter punches.
- The Hook is an art that is performed as a semi-circular punch from the lead hand. The arm swings in a horizontal arc toward the opponent. Most hook shots aim for the chin but there can be other target areas as well.
- The Uppercut needs practice as it is performed with the rear hand as it rises in an upward arc toward its' intended target. The knees should be slightly bent at the beginning of this punch but with the upward motion of the arm, the knees will also push upward.
- Practice footwork is critically important and you can never succeed in boxing unless you have perfect footwork. Without footwork, your legs will get crossed up and you will lose your balance midway. Learn to move forward and back while jabbing and then to shift to either side.
- It is necessary that you are in fit body shape to develop basic boxing skills. Shadow boxing will get your shoulders in shape. That way, you will be able to train longer and harder before fatigue sets in. Work hard on your abs and the lower back.
- Sparring is an important component in boxing and you must understand the value of sparring sessions and attend them. Controlled sparring drills with a partner will make you into a much better fighter. Without sparring practice, you can never master defensive moves, distancing, and clinching.
