Engineering has become the most preferred career path for science students. In India, there are a large number of engineering colleges which provide a variety of courses. According to NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) here is the All India ranking of top 5 engineering colleges. The Indian Institutes of Technology towered above others in the India Rankings 2017 for engineering institutes, grabbing all five out of the top 5 spots. For getting into any of the IITs, one has to go through the JEE Main. IIT-Madras has been decided as the country’s best engineering institute.
1st Rank: INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY MADRAS - [IITM], CHENNAI
● This institute was inaugurated in 1959 by the then Union Minister for Scientific Research and Cultural Affairs, Prof. HumayunKabir. It is one among the institutes established by an act of parliament.
● The institute has 16 academic departments, 8000 students, 550 faculties, 1250 administrative & supporting staff.
● There are Reservation seats for the students of different categories, they are as follows:
50% for general
27% for OBC
15% for SC
8% for ST
● This institute provides placement for students of a highest package of 1.82 Crore and an average package of 7.9 Lakhs.

2nd Rank: INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY - [IIT], MUMBAI
● It is the second oldest campus of the Indian Institute of Technology system. In 1958, it was established by an Act of Parliament.
● The institute has 17 academic departments, 8000 students and 565 faculties.

● This institute was established in 1950 and was started in 1951. It is the first of the IITs to be established and is recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India.

4th Rank: INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY - [IITD], NEW DELHI
● After the first establishment of IIT in Kharagpur in 1950, The government of India settled up an IIT in Delhi. It was inaugurated in 1961 by Prof HumayunKabir, Minister of Scientific Research.
● The institute has 7,784 students and approximately 390 faculties.
● There are Reservation seats for the students of different categories, they are as follows:
