Automobile sales up by 33% in August 2010
Total automobile sales in India up by 33% in August 2010 at 1.6 lakh units, against 1.2 lakh units in the same month of the last year. This overtakes last month's record of 1.58 lakh units. The August sales outshined July's record of 158,674 cars. The new models kept strong demand in domestic market in India. These include passenger cars, sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and multi purpose vehicles (MPVs) where Passenger cars grew by 34.32%, Utility Vehicles grew by 22.56% and Multi Purpose Vehicles grew by 50.68% in April-August 2010 over same period last year said SIAM in a statement. Overall automobile industry has recorder 33% of sales in august in domestic market. SIAM also said Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, TATA and Ford vast growth figures for the month of August 2010, with Maruti touching an all time high sales rate of 23.6% at 104,791 vehicles as against the same period last year.
