Wikipedia’s Call on Piracy
Yes it is right that the biggest encyclopedia of internet “Wikipedia” will remain shutdown on Wednesday for complete 24hrs. Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales announced on micro blogging site Twitter that they will be following a complete blackout due to the ongoing processing of SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act). This will be a protest against this act as according to Jimmy Wales internet should be free as it always was. This news has spread like fire on all over the internet. A major information bank would be closed following this protest. An appeal has been made to all the companies associated with software development services that they should also protest by halting all their services to different government organizations.
If a software development company providing software development services to government organizations comes to a halt then all the systems running through them will come to a meltdown within a few hours of this protest. The English version of the website will not be available from 5AM GMT on Wednesday till 5AM on the next day. Wikipedia’s website will be showing an open letter instead of the large article bank. All of the daily software development services for the website will also stopped by just publishing the open letter. According to Alexa Wikipedia comes on the sixth number in the list of most visited websites. This will impact the 100 million people daily visiting the website in a large way.
