Bikash Kumar's Story

The Journey So Far:
My journey in the corporate world,right from being a campus recruit to heading a business unit now,has been very challenging & exciting.I was lucky to work & study in different locations in India & abroad.Each experience has been enriching.I got to learn a lot from seasoned leaders by observing them
Job Profile:
In my current profile I am the Profit Center Head of the Business Unit in India. This business unit caters to regions in South Asia, Middle East & Africa(excluding South Africa).I am responsible for business strategy,sales & marketing, after sales activities besides top-line & bottom-line of the BU!
The Decisions That Matter
I have taken few important career decisions along the way.The most critical decision was to pursue MBA from a globally-reputed college while I was working for the most reputed group in India.The recent one-taking the challenge of heading a business unit. Consciously I worked in different functions!
Plans For The Future:
I would like to see myself accomplishing bigger challenges in future.I would like to head a business unit of a globally reputed company which can offer me more responsibilities & challenges.I would like to set a role model not just professionally but also in personal conduct,ethics & integrity!
Prized Accomplishment(s):
I am proud of my career growth thus far. I have often pushed myself to achieve business & career goals beyond set targets. In my current profile,I have always achieved beyond targets & then set higher benchmarks after that. Successfully acomplishing whatever I undertake has always been my objective!
Growth Strategy:
I am continuously looking to take up more challenging roles in my endeavor to grow and develop as a leader.I have been fortunate to work briefly in various functions which gave me an opportunity to lead various functions as a business leader.As a leader I take it as my responsibility to groom others
Required Reading:
I would definitely encourage upcoming professionals to network within the industry for sharing & enriching knowledge.Iron & Steel,Steelworld,Steel & Metallurgy are few journals I recommend for Steel industry professionals.Besides,websites such as Silicon India,LinkedIn,etc are good networking tools
Advice For New Professionals:
My advice to professionals entering the workforce today is to focus on learning and not earning to begin with. If we enjoy and relish what we do, success becomes a by-product. Therefore, one should attempt to target a career which can also be his or her passion.
Role Model:
Ratan Tata comes to mind immediately.I've followed the career of Mr. Tata from his turning around of NELCO,Empress Mill to the bold acquisition of Tetley,JLR,Corus to the visionary development of Tata cars.Emphasis of Tata Group on ethics,integrity & CSR always inspired me.I'm lucky to have met him!
