Lokesh Gulyani's Story
The Journey So Far:
I worked for 10 years in electronic media for various brand names like ETV Rajasthan, Sahara Samay, FM Radio 07, 95 FM Tadka, Big 92.7 FM, Red FM and since June 2011 I am working in a new role of an educator.
Job Profile:
I am working as an Assistant Professor for media studies and I teach electronic media. Apart from this I take care of quarterly newsletter and media relations for my University.
The Decisions That Matter
I would say that my recent decision was the most crucial and significant move of them all.
Career Profile:
I am working as an Asst. Professor for Media Studies and I am responsible for shaping budding talents, teaching, mentoring, research and media relations. Previously I was working as Programming head for some FM radio station and was responsible for sound of the station so that's a complete change.
Degrees That Matter:
Well, I would definitely suggest to have it as it gives lot of confidence and negotiation power. Young professionals can go for degrees like; BJMC, MJMC, PR and Advt, Photography, Multimedia and graphics etc
Done Differently:
I will start working late not in the age bracket of 21-23 like I did, I would like to finish up my studies first and will try to go abroad for higher studies if I get a chance and then I will decide to work.
Plans For The Future:
In this current industry only but with more firm grounding and profile. May be a Doctorate degree in my kitty if things go my way.
Prized Accomplishment(s):
When I was working in media, at almost all places I was the part of the channel launch that means If I have mentioned six brand names in my CV then I was a part of six different channel launch, I feel that's the USP for me.
Growth Strategy:
Have written research papers and presented, working on innovative ideas for the betterment of the course, writing book on my subject which is in process, developing new teaching aids.
Other Thoughts:
Yes, I would like to tell my readers that generally we don't know what choices we should make in life, it happens with most of us. Whatever the situation may be don't hurry in choosing your career path, take your time, research thoroughly, consult only with the best people then go for it.
Required Reading:
For Radio and TV production I would recommend Herbert Zettl and easily available other Oxford publications. For industry knowledge they should regularly visit www.agencyfaqs.com, www.radioandmusic.com, soundbox.co.in, exchange4media.com, Indiantelevision.com etc
Advice For New Professionals:
Sharp communication skills, serious approach, presentation skills and focused mind are some of the pre requisite for the job.
Role Model:
I am pretty much inspired with the top management of Radio Mirchi for their grip over the Radio audience and market share.
