The Decisions That Matter
I did my Advanced Diploma in Information Technology from NIIT, Chandigarh. But decided to join my father's business rather than accepting job offers from overseas. With deep rooted Indian family values, I did not want to leave him alone being the only son.
Career Profile:
Sine I am a business owner, I AM RESPONSIBLE for everything !!
Working Life Management:
We have fixed work hours at our office and firmly believe that everyone has a personal life so I am able to give ample time to my work & family. Everyone has been given the same 24 hours, so it is about setting your priorities right.
Done Differently:
Market mechanics keep on changing everyday. It depends at what point of time you start off. 'Time' shapes our life with the opportunities & challenges it presents. So, at this juncture, I cannot say what I would do differently until I reach that moment in time !!
Plans For The Future:
We are striving to expand pan-India, adding more brands & products and appointing distributors for our products. We are also planning to diversify in consumer products too. I would like to see ourselves as a renowned brand in marketing of engineering & consumer products in the next couple of years.
Prized Accomplishment(s):
If we had not diversified into imports from being just distributors for big companies at the right time, we might not have survived. So I am very proud that I brought this change at the right time.
Other Thoughts:
Yes, as a matter of fact I would. When I joined business in 1996, corruption was prevalent mostly in the public sector but now we find it rampant everywhere. Employees working in the smallest organizations look for opportunities to extort money from vendors. This is very sad.
Advice For New Professionals:
Well, there are no short-cuts to success. Honesty is still the best policy.
Role Model:
My father Mr. Vinay Prakash is my biggest inspiration because of his sheer grit and determination. He has always given me an open hand to experiment and experience things first hand and has never tried to impose his thoughts upon me.
