Vipul Sood's Story

The Journey So Far:
In my 5+ years of experience, I had worked with multiple organizations under different profiles. I started my career as a business development guy and now I am working as Sr. Business Analyst. Last 5 years were very exciting in terms of personal and professional growth.
Job Profile:
Currently I am in a Sr. Business Analyst role. My current responsibilities are as follows: - Requirement Gathering and Analysis - Client Interaction - Functional design documentation - Functional Testing - Gap Fit Analysis for different clients/projects - Presales activities
The Decisions That Matter
I was working with WNS in 2006 and then I decided to go for MBA. That was a most important decision in my life because after MBA i decided to choose Business Analysis as my career. And I am happy today that I made a right choice.
Career Profile:
Currently working as Sr. Business Analyst. Responsibilities: - Requirement gathering and analysis - Writing functional design documents Before this I was in a role of test engineer for one of the projects. Responsibilities: Preparing test scenarios and test cases Perform testing and bug logging
Degrees That Matter:
In coming few years, I will definitely go for IIBA certification. This certification is highly recommended for any person who sees his/her career in Business analysis.Down the line I would also like to do PMP certification. This certification is bare minimum requirement for any managerial position
Working Life Management:
This is a tricky question.... We all know that in India in most of the companies people can not even think of 'Work Life Balance'. Its not achievable. But yes I know one thing if you will put efforts in the beginning of the career, it will definitely pay you in long run.
Done Differently:
If given a chance to start over again. I would love to sharpen my Business analysis skills in the beginning of my career. What most of the professional lacks in, is the fundamental knowledge of any subject/topic. One should understand that there is big difference b/w holding a profile & becoming SME
Prized Accomplishment(s):
There are many awards and appreciations which i have got time to time in my career. The most delightful was my first nomination for best contributor (overall). These small appreciations act as a motivating factor in ones professional life. This gives him/her strength to learn and grow more.
Growth Strategy:
I am an active member of different business analysis forums. Apart from that I continuously challenge myself for something new. In my career I have worked in profiles like business development, presales, test engineer, business analyst etc. So everyday with every little step I am learning and growing
Other Thoughts:
Yes, I would like to tell something to the new entrants. This role is very interesting and challenging as it involves direct interaction with all the major stakeholders within and outside the company. After wearing BA shoes one has to become a continuous thinker and master of subject matter.
Required Reading:
For Business Analyst there are many forums where they can join and enhance their skills. Few to name are www.modernanalyst.com, www.buildingbusinesscapability.com, www.businessanalyst.com, www.theiiba.org, www.iil.com/bacp etc. The best book to refer is 'BABOK' by IIBA
