Anand Kumar Vasishtha's Story
Job Profile:
I have throughout my working span held 2nd rank in top management as GM (Ops.)/CEO/Sr. Mgr. Purchase/Sr. Manager Stores/EA to CEO & also handling Human Resource (Hiring), Training & overseeing Audit Compliances (both Ethical & Technical), Creating various company policies, devising Quality Manual.
The Decisions That Matter
Firstly I did not opt for Govt.job.My perception was that all chaff works for Govt.I wanted to create a niche for me in private sector & so far I have done well & am satisfied. From EA to CEO I have taken quantum leap to hold portfolios like CEO/Sr.Mgr. Purchase/Sr.Mgr.Stores/GM-Ops.
Career Profile:
My responsibilities cover the entire gamut of handling operations, recruiting, training,MIS Development,Systems development, ERP implementation, Production Planning & Control,HRM Training & Compliances (Ethical & Technical),cost cutting, Govt. iaisoning, independent correspondence et all.
Degrees That Matter:
No, not at this age of 56.
Working Life Management:
Like strings are fine tuned to give out sweet notes, I have that fine tuned natural tension in my personality. I am self-disciplined, punctual, manage my time well, read voraciously to update my knowledge base touching my job profile & other streams of business management.
Done Differently:
I will not compromise on ethical values, succumb to any pressure to latch on to job where exploitation is sole motto & positive professionalism is just a sham word & conservative stranglehold of owners with bania mentality prevails.I perceive myself as John Galt from Ayan Rand's ATLAS SHRUGGED.
Plans For The Future:
My trait of being outspoken(bereft of my vested interests)in policy matters, which at times are not in line with the owners who exploit human resource, love boot licking dubious characters, view my suggestions as domineering & difference of opinion in terms of human values, not any takers.I am hot amber
Prized Accomplishment(s):
I turned a sick Textile Fabric Processing Unit into a profitable venture, metamorphosed a ramshackle Unit down south into TESCO INT'L approved (Ethically & Technically) for export of Cotton Cushion Covers, always had the guts to put across my viewpoint(which always turned positive when implemented).
Changes In The Professional Environment:
Frankly speaking,in Panipat owners work with bania mentality and are not professional at all.I have had the fortune of working with TWO professional companies-Bharat Steel Tubes Ltd.)Raunaq Group flagship company and Mahajan Overseas Pvt. Ltd.(12 & 22 years respectively).Perverted psyche gone up.
Growth Strategy:
With positive & proactive working approach, setting up examples by leading from the front in terms of integrity, self-discipline, dedicated working, better & smart output, better time management and sharing my knowledge with team members, I have evolved as a leader. However, owners like sycophants.
Other Thoughts:
My experience with the owners of Panipat industrialists is not good. They don't like employees who do not toe their line, which is bordering on sheer exploitation & degradation of human resource. I find their psyche perverted & some of them have told me point blank that they prefer to hire looters.
Required Reading:
Internet has unfolded before you treasure trove of knowledge to be gained touching all facets of business management - utilize it. I have fed myself through reading literature, novels fiction/non-fiction),Readers'Digest,National Geographic,Business Today,The Economist,India Today,Discovery Channel
Advice For New Professionals:
Don't shy away from being outspoken on issues compromising human values, work with thinking/analysing/synthesizing/creative minds, never lose your natural personality traits to the whims & wishes of exploitative owners & do not let the fire within you die, which in our society terms as COMPROMISE.
