The Decisions That Matter
Firstly the decision I made when I joined the IT industry. My decision to move into the private sector in 1989. The decision to shift to IT services industry with my move to PwC in 1998. Finally, the decision to promote Numind and the decision to support clients market their products and services.
Career Profile:
As a founder promoter of Numind, I am responsible to lead this boutique consulting organization. I consider myself to be the one where the buck stops in Numind and it is here that my role is very different from my earlier assignments in the Corporate sector.
Working Life Management:
I spend my free time with my family. However, this is never sufficient. There are phases or periods when this is heavily skewed in favor of work but the intent to balance is always there. I also try to factor is both elements while managing my time. The less reactive we are, it is easier to balance
Done Differently:
I would take the entrepreneurship plunge lot earlier
Plans For The Future:
Besides what we do today, I am keen to focus on expanding a vocation training base to help our rural population find employment / self employment. I see myself catalyzing inclusive growth by way of helping large number of people find their means of livelihood and transform into professionals
Prized Accomplishment(s):
Having created an outsourced sales business model for this highly technical industry that has received endorsement from our clients big and small for the value it creates for them.
Changes In The Professional Environment:
I joined the industry in 1979 with CMC Limited. Those days when there were few IT professionals and skill sets were limited. Now it is an array of skills and a very large availability of skill pool. Standards have evolved and effective measurement tools are in place.
Growth Strategy:
Learn from others - eminent industry leaders, our clients, our colleagues and our panel of eminent advisers. In the end, one has to take calculated risks, have conviction and back oneself to achieve success
Advice For New Professionals:
Be professional in your ethics always, be a continuing learner, always view a situation from the perspective of all stake holders before arriving at any decision on a problem situation, be aware of what value contributions you are making in your team as well as organization
Role Model:
Dan Gupta, my ex boss in Tata IBM, as the Deputy MD, is a role model to me. He could connect with clients and team members with ease and elan. Always, had their interests uppermost in his mind and delivered on his commitments with professional excellence. A true blue IBMer inspires me in what I do.
