Avishek Tarafdar's Story

The Journey So Far:
From final yr of my graduation i started working as freelance designer through many freelancing websites, then after getting a few regular clients, formed the company, now i have 54 employees in Kolkata & Dubai branch. And by this year end will have 2 more offices @ Barcelona, spain & Chestar,uk
Job Profile:
I'm the Managing Director of my company. Mainly I look after the business development part. But being a designer i cant resist myself to overview the production too for quality control.
The Decisions That Matter
I did not attend the campus interview as i was determined that i'll do business.
Working Life Management:
I dont work when i'm at home and keep my mobile silent. My family deserve their part of happy time with me. Also i keep my business phone switched off on weekend.
Plans For The Future:
IPO is my main target. But near future i should have 150+ employees, couple of more overseas offices. If my small effort can give employment to more people, then i'll be more than happy.
Prized Accomplishment(s):
within 3 years of business we opened an office at dubai without any private / personal investment.
Changes In The Professional Environment:
I'm still the same, all my employees are like my friends, we work like a family. So it has not been changed really. But on the other hand after meeting and working for so many big overseas corporate, we have evolved professionally.
Growth Strategy:
1. You have to realize, business is all about team work. So keep your employee happy. 2. You have to be straight to client, dont negotiate on quality for money. They will be repeat client if they find you good. 3. Never say no to any work & inject this habit into employees. 4. well documented.
Other Thoughts:
You have to be very strong if you are starting from zero and you refuse to take any investment from your family.
Required Reading:
Entrepreneur, Business Today are good magazines. https://www.tie.org/ , http://www.smallbusinesshub.in , http://www.ideas.economictimes.com/ are good websites to follow.
Advice For New Professionals:
1. Commitment towards the work is most important. 2. Fast & smart turnout should be the motto. 3. Never give extra effort, be to-the-point.
Role Model:
My dad is my role model, because of his patience. He taught me, no matter how bad the situation is, you have to wait for the right time to come. It takes time to build a business’ brand and image, be patient but If you think like a small business, you will remain a small business.
