How to Recover Mac Data When Time Machine Backup Fails With Error '109'
Time Machine is a data back-up utility developed by Apple for the Mac OS X based systems. This utility was introduced with the release of Mac OS X 10.5 and works with Time Capsule, USB hard drives and FireWire (IEEE 1394a/b) drives. This advanced utility can be immensely helpful in taking incremental backup of your valuable data to an external device and allows you to restore the system at any later date. However, if any problem arises in the Time Machine itself, resulting in the loss or inaccessibility of your important data, then you have to take the help of any Mac data recovery software in order to recover back the seemingly lost data.
You added a new hard drive to your old backup and mapped the Time Machine to it. Once, you started taking a new backup, initially it ran nicely until an error message on the screen, after which all the backup disks mapped to the Time Machine became inaccessible. The error message that you received may be as below:
"Time Machine Could Not Complete Backup" - "The backup disk image '/Volumes/my_name_backup-1/my_name's mimi mac.sparsebundle" could not be accessed (error 109)"
Resolution:
1. Apple does not recommend Airport Extreme Base Station(AEBS) to be used with Time Machine and hence, you must use Time Capsule instead if you are using AEBS.
2. Remove spaces, special characters & punctuations from the names of your Mac system, Time Machine drive and Time Capsule. Moreover, rename them as short and simple as possible. Go to 'System Preferences > Sharing' to change the name of your Mac system. Go to 'TM Preferences > Change Disk ', in order to change the name of the disk. Note that this process may take some time to list out the partitions.
3. If you are encountering any problem in backing-up to the Time Capsule, then, change the network interface and try again.
4. If you failed to resolve the issue with the above steps, upload the previous version Time Capsule firmware.
After trying all the above steps, if you are still at the receiving end of the same error, the only option you are left with is to run any Mac recovery software to retrieve back your inaccessible data from the troubled hard drives.
Mac recovery software are designed to scan the troubled drives and recover back the data from the drives safely. These recovery utilities are completely read-only in nature and with easily understandable steps, can be used by any user without much technical knowledge.
Stellar Phoenix Macintosh Data Recovery is the most appreciated Mac data recovery software of the recent time and with 100% risk-free recovery, is indeed the most efficient and reliable utility to help you recover your valuable data from almost all data loss situations.
